POWER BOAT - Blackwater and Colne Estuaries
1. Drowning (including falling
overboard)
Fatality Buoyancy aid to be worn by all passengers and crew. Crew and driver competent
to recover man overboard.
Maximum numbers that are permitted on any craft should not be exceeded. All
passengers to remain seated at all times.
Operating area within Cat C water - West of a line between Sales Point and the
South Western tip of Mersea Island.

2. Injury from propeller Major injury All powered craft will be fitted with an engine cut out switch which should be used
correctly at all times. Lanyard must remain attached to the instructor.
Engine switched off when recovering swimmers.

3. Hypothermia Major injury Disclosure of risks through wind chill. Warm clothing to be worn.

The fuel tank and battery (if fitted) should be adequately secured. Outboard
engines should be securely attached ideally with additional bolts through the
transom.
